Beyond the Ministry
02 October, 2026
Our last month of DTS, we were in Medan, Indonesia, I’ve been reflecting on all that God has allowed us to experience and the many ways He has opened doors for us to serve. This month reminded me that missions can look so different from day to day, but at the centre of it all is simply being willing to go where God leads, love people genuinely, and share what He has placed on our hearts.
Our time in Medan was filled with so many different opportunities to serve and connect with people. From visiting churches and youth groups, sharing testimonies and teachings, to spending time with children in orphanages and communities, each experience gave us a different glimpse of what it means to love people like Jesus. We were also able to feed people experiencing homelessness and go out for street evangelism. Through all of these experiences, God gave us opportunities not only to share His love, but to learn from the people we met along the way.
Throughout this month, God has been reminding me that ministry is ultimately about people. It’s easy to focus on what we are doing, where we are going, or how much we are able to accomplish, but Jesus continually draws our attention back to loving people. Whether we were sharing the Gospel with someone on the street, encouraging a young person at youth, spending time with children, or sitting with someone who was sick, each moment was an opportunity to reflect His love and point people back to Him.
3 Glimpses of Joy:
Seeing the joy on the children's faces during our kids programs in the orphanages and getting to build genuine relationships with them through games, laughter, and time together.
Being able to share my testimony and teachings in different churches and youth groups, and seeing how God can use our stories to encourage and connect with others.
Serving alongside the team throughout Medan, whether feeding people on the streets, visiting communities, or going out for evangelism, and experiencing the joy that comes from serving together and watching God open unexpected opportunities.
2 Lessons Along the Way:
I've learnt that every person has a story worth listening to. Whether we were speaking with someone on the street, spending time with children, or meeting people at church, God has been teaching me to slow down and genuinely see the person in front of me rather than focusing only on what I want to say or accomplish.
I've also learnt that sharing the Gospel requires courage, but it also requires dependence on God. There were moments when stepping out to speak to someone felt uncomfortable or unfamiliar, but God reminded me that I don't have to have everything figured out. I simply need to be willing, obedient, and trust Him with the outcome.
1 Thing I'm Trusting God With
I'm trusting God with the people we've met and the seeds that have been planted throughout this month. There are so many conversations, prayers, testimonies, and moments that we may never know the full impact of. I'm learning to trust that God is the One who continues the work long after we leave. My role is simply to be faithful with what He puts in front of me, to love people well, and to leave the results in His hands. I'm trusting that He will continue to work in every heart and every place we've been, even when I can't see what He's doing.
